We’ll meet at Monkshill Refectory, a wonderful converted barn with views out to sea across the Swale estuary, close to Whitstable and Canterbury with peacocks roaming the farm buildings and kitchen garden.

 

 

 

Making Pamphlet and Single Section Books is a great introduction to bookbinding for beginners.

You will learn beginning bookbinding techniques.  We will look the importance of paper grain and how to fold, sew, and cover your books to create useful and beautiful books using basic tools. Your afternoon of making includes all materials, including paper, board, various decorative papers, bookcloth, linen thread and adhesive to make your own uniquely designed books. Tools are provided for use on the day.

Coffee, tea and biscuits are included.

You’ll take away your unique handbound books, new skills, and the satisfaction and well-being that the investment of time into working creatively brings.

 

In the workshop you will learn about:

The selection of materials
Paper grain
Sewing techniques
Cover preparation
Some common bookbinding tools and how to use them safely

Classes are taught through practical demonstrations and supported hands on work. Image is to demonstrate the style of book only. Papers and materials will vary.

Monkshill Refectory is a well ventilated venue with capacity for 20 socially distanced people, with up to 60 when restrictions are no longer required. Bindfulness workshops are limited to 8 places.
