Q. What is the Tiny Book Collaboration?
A. I make Tiny Books – you fill ’em up. The Tiny Book Collaboration is a collaborative book art project. It is a collection of blank handmade books measuring 6.5cm x 4.5cm with hand drawn covers. All of our books are stored in a Briefcase Library made specially to hold them.
Q. What kind of things are the books filled with?
A. All sorts! Contributors have shared random day to day thoughts, tiny prints, poetry, drawings, gratitudes, linocuts, Sunday mornings on my own, chords and melodic fragments, collage, geographical surveys, stitching, mapping, weaving, shopping lists, doodling, noodling, guitar chords, cut throughs, mixed media, and cyanotype. To name a few!
I fully expect to be surprised and delighted with every contribution, and I have not been disappointed!
Q. Can I change the size of the Book?
A. Your book can expand in thickness, but the Height and Width should remain unchanged. This means that your book will fit into the boxes specially designed for the Briefcase Library.
Q. I’m shy about sharing my book. Can I choose what to share?
A. Books are shared on Instagram – this is where it all started! AND If you would prefer not to be tagged or mentioned, please let me know when you return your book. Inclusion in the Library does mean your books will be seen by the public. There will be an Order reference on each book, which is not linked to your name. Other identifying information will only be there if you add it yourself.
Q. I’m not an artist! Why should I get involved?
A. The Tiny Book Collaboration is a Book Art Project. It’s a book collection, not an art collection. Every voice deserves a place. You are my contemporary, and yours are the marks, thoughts, ideas, and words I want in the Library. The sum of all the small parts makes a rich and varied picture. You don’t have to be an Artist to be in on that!
If it fits on a Tiny page, it’s perfect for the Tiny Book Collaboration.
Q. When can I Sign up?
A. Anytime!
There is no timescale on returning your book. Send it back to Bindfulness Handmade Books, Alexander Centre, 15-17 Preston Street, Faversham, ME13 8NZ when you’re finished.
Q. How much is it to Join in and what do I get?
A. One Tiny Book and its inclusion in the Briefcase Library is £23 (plus your postage when you return your book).
