Pamphlet Books in Phase Box Workshop Spend a fun, creative day making a set of beautifully sewn pamphlet books. This full-day workshop introduces you to the foundational techniques of bookbinding. You will make a set of three (or possibly four, depending on time) sewn pamphlet books and a custom-made phase box to store them in.
What You’ll Learn:
- Introduction to Bookbinding: Start by learning the basics of creating pamphlet books, a simple yet versatile structure.
- Pamphlet Stitching Techniques: Explore various types of pamphlet stitching, including the structure of the double pamphlet, and understand the importance of paper grain in bookbinding.
- Phase Box Creation: Learn to make a phase box, a protective enclosure historically used in restoration. These boxes were designed to temporarily protect fragile books awaiting repair or permanent storage. Books were repaired in phases – hence the name!
- Hands-On Experience: Throughout the day, you will fold, sew, and trim your books using basic tools, gaining practical skills that you can continue to develop at home.
This workshop is perfect for complete beginners and those looking to explore bookbinding techniques. No prior experience is required.

Bindfulness workshop venues are in Faversham.
Creative Courses is a multi-use creative space. Tea and coffee, quality teaching, and materials are provided… you just turn up and enjoy your day. There is plenty of parking and the venue is 15 minutes walk from Faversham train station. The Creative Courses Workshop is on the first floor of Unit 1C. There is no lift.
The 1697 Shop is right in the heart of Faversham at 121 West Street.
